Suzuki Swift XG Aero and Style-L

It appears as if Suzuki just can’t get enough of foisting limited edition cars on the unsuspecting Japanese public. Witness the double whammy of the Swift XG Aero and Swift Style-L, both released on June 5. Unlike the Wagon R, this was released for no apparent reason whatsoever. I just don’t have the energy to keep up with this anymore, so let’s just say the XG Aero has a body kit, alloys and alacantra while the Style-L has a teapot in the center console.

Achtung! German Suzuki buyers will have a shot at one of 1200 limited edition Suzuki Swift “Black and White” editions in either Black or White Pearl paint. Suzuki Swift RE2 Limited Editon

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Another day, another limited edition. This time, it comes from a land down under, where the 680 Suzuki Swift RE2s will honor the little car’s JWRC successes. Unfortunately, rather than a special stage dirt flinger, the RE2 is more or less an appearance package with an iPod port. Still, 3000 dollars’ worth of rims, shiny alloy pedals, RE2 badging and fiberglass body parts isn’t bad, even if they are Australian dollars. An accompanying edition of the Swift S, which basically consists of a cruise control button on the steering wheel, is limited to just 500 units.

Swift Move: Suzuki’s One-Make Series

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

I’ve been fascinated by one-make races in which inexpensive, identically-prepared racers let drivers battle it out in a test of skill while on a budget ever since Gran Turismo 2. The Suzuki Swift is a highly acclaimed sporty compact sold in many non-US English speaking nations perfect for just such an activity. New Zealand just wrapped up its road course-based Suzuki Swift Sport Cup and the UK is about to kick off their own rally-oriented version. With the Swift also debuting in WRC this year under the leadership of Pikes Peak legend Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima, the little Suzuki is poised to be quite the hot hatch.
