Honda Accord Comes to Japan

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

The bigger, plusher (ie, less sporty) car we know as the Acura TSX comes to Japan as the Honda Accord, accompanied by a wagon version we don’t get. There’s not much to say about it, except that Hondas continue to grow farther and farther from their sporting roots. When the previous generation Accord came to be, what Americans called the Accord was actually named the Inspire in Japan, while the Japanese Accord remained true to its sportier roots in the form our Acura TSX. Since they are both now cushy luxury sedans, the schism seems utterly pointless. (more…)

Honda Sports Car Driving Meet

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Honda Japan does a lot for its customers in Japan, not the least of which is the Sports Car Driving Meet. It’s basically a performance driving school for owners of the Civic Type R, Integra Type R, Accord/Torneo Euro R and S2000. At ¥37,800 for the one-day course and ¥68,250 for the two-day course, the cost is more than reasonable. Can you imagine tearing down the legendary Twin Ring Motegi or Suzuka Circuit in your own car with a professional instructor at your side?

R car owners have their choice of Twin Ring Motegi on August 16 or Suzuka on October 13 for the one-day and Motegi on November 30 to December 1 for the two-day. Being a more hard-core bunch, S2000 owners have no choice but to sign up for two-day classes on November 16-17 at Motegi or November 23-24 at Suzuka.

I cannot begin to describe how badly I wish Honda would do this in the US. Sigh… looks like I’ll have to settle for .
