Finally! The long-awaited V8 from one of the top engine builders in the industry is finally on its way, confirmed in a statement by Honda CEO Takeo Fukui, who said that the Acura brand, especially the flagship RL, is suffering from a two-cylinder shortage. This has been speculated on for a long time (basically, ever since it was announced that the NSX would be V10-powered) but it’s good to hear it from the horse’s mouth.

Honda has released photos of the 2009 Acura RL in all its robotic parrot beaked glory. This will be a holdover until the next-gen Legend/RL debuts, with rumors of a V8 or V10 surrounding the flagship sedan. Until then, keep your fingers away from that grille!

Honda has just released photos of the 2009 Acura TL. No proper horsepower figures have been divulged, but the horse’s mouth has at least confirmed that the TL will have the Legend/RL’s revolutionary Super Handling AWD system, which sends power not only front to back but side to side as well. We just might be on the brink of another sports car renaissance, people. It’ll be like the early 90s all over again, when Honda, Toyota and Nissan unleashed the NSX, Supra and 300ZX on an unsuspecting American public.
According to Inside Line, Honda CEO Takeo Fukui has commanded his minions to summon an NSX that will obliterate the Nürburgring lap times of the Nissan GT-R and Lexus LF-A. The rumored weapon of choice will be a 5.5L V10 with 550hp and 420lb-ft of torque mated to an 8MT and SH-AWD.
The idea of an all-out Clash of the Titans Japanese supercar battle royale is something I’ve been waiting for for 10 motherf’in’ years. I’ll be watching this one closely and hope with every fiber of my being that it will live up to the full epicosity potential inherent in the concept.

The next Honda Legend / Acura RL has been spotted in test mule guise. Speculation is that this will be RWD with Honda’s first production V8, which is capable of 420hp. The bodywork of this test mule is a TSX, but who knows if that’s just a decoy. At least the front wheels seem to be pushed forward enough that RWD could be more than just a pipe dream.
