Sayonara Toyota Soarer, Avalon

I’ve always thought the Toyota Soarer, especially the third generation that was also sold as the Lexus SC in the US, was ungodly beautiful. The fact that it shared the same platform with the Supra gave it sexually arousing sleeper potential. But that all went out the door when the fourth gen was bloated into a posh luxury yacht with completely superfluous folding hardtop convertible. I’ve been harboring secret hopes that when the Z40 was finally put out to pasture a sportier Soarer would return. Sadly, ’tis not to be.
Inside sources at Toyota are saying that while a follow-up to the Lexus SC 430 was in the works - based on the same RWD platform as the LF-A no less - but the project has since been canceled. Noooooooo!
In the same leak, I also learned that the Avalon is a goner as well. While not as big a loss, I’ve always felt it would be a great interstate cruiser, and the current generation isn’t too bad looking, either.
But the Soares? Why, oh why? You Maniacs! Damn you! God damn you all to hell!
